Until the lights come up
A word before you scroll
Four floors up, with the river on one side and the whole city on the other, we are getting married on a roof. Come early — the light on the water at seven is the reason we picked it. Everything you might need is on this page: the hour, the door, and which lift to take.
How we got here
Adham talked his way onto a building in Zamalek to photograph the sunset. Malak was already up there, and had a better lens.

A pavement ahwa in Zamalek, a balcony over a mango tree above it, and a generator that rattled the whole street. We sat there every Thursday for a year — by the end of it our mothers were phoning each other more than we were.
A walk that was supposed to end at the bridge. It did not. Malak said yes before Adham had finished the question.

One September evening, a roof over the river, and everyone who got us here standing on it. That is the whole plan.
One evening, hour by hour
Take the left-hand lift to the roof. There is something cold waiting and the best of the light is right now.
At the river end of the terrace, under the strings. Short, and over before the city lights come up.
Drinks along the parapet while the bridges light. Wander; nothing starts without you.
Long tables down the middle of the roof, a proper meal, and speeches that will run over.
The band plays until one and the playlist takes it from there. Coffee before you drive.
Where to find us

A terrace on the fourth floor with the river on one side. Valet at the door; take the left-hand lift, which is the only one that goes to the roof. The terrace is step-free from the lift.
What to wear
City formal. Dark colours, good shoes, and a jacket you will want after eleven — it is a roof, and the wind comes off the water.
A few small things
Only one of the two lifts reaches the roof. Someone will be in the lobby to point you at it, and the stairs are there if you would rather.
Warm until about eleven and then not. Bring something for your shoulders — the wind comes straight off the river.
Having you on the roof is the gift. If you would like to mark the day, a card on the night is more than enough.
One last thing
One small form and you are done.
